Enjoying Small Town Festivities...

Sometimes it's nice to be in small towns. They have a certain feel to them that draws you in and welcomes you. Maybe its the smiles; maybe its the people. All I know is that it feels good to be back home. Jenn and I have really enjoyed the first few days we've had here in Forsyth. It's been great to be back around family and friends.

Now with any small town, you know that there is going to be some quirky festivities. Jenn and I found this out last week as we undertook two activities with my family...glow ball golf and homemade ice cream making.

On Friday night, we teed up after the sun went down for my dad's annual Knight's of Columbus annual Glow-Ball Tournament in Forsyth. Now I've golfed before (I played on our high school team a few years ago), but this was something totally different than anything I've ever done. Try hitting a glowing golf ball in total darkness not knowing where the ground is and barely knowing where the flagpole is located. It's tough!!! There were plenty of wiffs and flying lights going everywhere in our group that night . Let's just say that Jenn's first golfing experience was quite an adventure!!! Amidst the moonlight and golf carts driving around in the dark, somehow we managed to finish at least a few holes...

On Saturday, we had another adventure. We drove out to Colstrip and surprised my aunt with a visit. She was pretty happy to see us. After talking and viewing some old pictures of past family outings, we decided it was time once again to make some family homemade ice cream. We grabbed the car keys and went to the store for supplies. Cream, sugar, vanilla, rock salt...before you knew it we had quite the mixture going. Then came the hard part. After mixing all the ingredients together, someone had to crank and stir the container in a tub of ice to freeze the mixture. Yup, I received the honor. After twenty minutes of turning the crank (and my arm about ready to fall off), we were finished. The mixture had hardened, and as we opened the container and spooned the ice cream into our mouths, it tasted absolutely delicious! All the hard work was definitely worth it. Homemade ice cream is good good!!!

Who knows what adventure is coming up next here in Eastern Montana. So far though, I've really enjoyed the ones that have come up along the way! (Although after writing this, I wish we had some more of that ice cream left...it was so good!)
