Labor Day?

If I'm not mistaken, labor day is a time for rest and relaxation. It's a time to stick your feet up and enjoy a day off from work. It's a time where physical exertion is to be kept to a minimal. That's what you would think...that's not the case with the Pesters however.

Today was a day of concrete. Today I became "Jackhammer Jaisen" as my parents, Jenn, and I started on a "Saturday project." It all started with a tree root and a storm that had broken and pushed up a big section of sidewalk in front of my parents house. It looked like a pretty dangerous hazard. (Although I'm sure all of the neighborhood kids loved the it for their bike jumps!) Anyways, today we decided we would tackle the bump and start the grounds for getting a new sidewalk laid.

So we went to the local hardware store and rented a jackhammer. Getting back home, we started it up, and from then on were committed on the project. It broke up fairly easily with most of the sections breaking up into manageable pieces. The hard part though was loading all of the old cement into the pickup and hauling it to the dump grounds. In all, I think we had six pickup loads full of cement!!! And yes, our muscles are entirely too sore right now...

But in all it was an adventure and looks good now. My parents have to decide what to do with the root still, but at least the huge bump in the sidewalk is taken care of for now. Labor Day...hmm, maybe that means we'll be put to labor...hmm :-)
