The Grasp of Worship

Yesterday, Jennifer and I went and saw the movie "Amazing Grace" that's out in theaters now. It's the story of William Wilberforce and his passionate battle to end slavery in England during the late 18th century. It's a behind-the-scenes look of how the classic hymn came into existence. Overall, it was a pretty well done movie...

Anyways, the movie left me pondering about music and the act of worship in a believer's life. You could see Wilberforce's connection to God through the hymn in the movie. It made me think about my own rich times with God through music...

Throughout the years I've been a believer, God and I have spent some intense times together through music. Whether I'm in corporate worship at a church service, driving down the road with the radio on, or playing songs on the guitar, when God grasps a hold of my heart through a song, it is one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. There's something about true humble worship from deep within that makes your heart feel satisfied. God's presence becomes so thick its almost tangible as the love you feel for him overwhelms all your emotions. Tears stream as all you can do is worship Him. And when it's over all you are left with is an intense desire for another encounter with God like that again...

Worship is all about God. There's a song by Lifehouse that has brought me to my knees and broken my pride time and time again in my journey with God. I don't know how many times God has brought me to a point of speechlessness before him when I hear the song. Here's some of the lyrics:

How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?
How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

Cause you're all I want, You're all I need
You're everything, everything
You're all I want, You're all I need
You're everything, everything...

I absolutely love intense times with God. Whether its enjoying his overwhelming love, marveling in Him, or even being brought to a place of brokenness, there is no other place that my heart feels such freedom and joy than with Him. I'm so looking forward to worship in Heaven...

I remember singing that song at Real Life our freshman year and being so encouraged. What amazing lyrics. I still play that song all the time when I worship by myself. I need to check out that movie. It looks great.
