Facebook Exposes Students thoughts on the Gospel
Facebook...a website where college students form a community to share pictures, state their likes and dislikes, stay in communication with each other, and join groups of common interests to meet new friends. It has gained extreme popularity and significance on campuses across the nation over the last few years and has almost become an essential in the lives of students.
Recently, a new staff member with Campus Crusade for Christ joined into a large group of college students on Facebook. He made the following post on a group discussion board:
"What really matters in life! (It's about God y'all). "
He then gave two links to websites. One that clearly presents the Gospel and another that answers questions many students have about Christianity.
Want to hear what college students think of the Gospel? Want to know what type of response he received? In two days, he has had over 3,800 comments on his post, and that number is still growing right now. Here are some of the comments:
"The idea of God is a cancer of the human mind. For the love of humanity, let's think for ourselves." - student at Dartmouth
"And what does my sinning have to do with anything? I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints." - student in Delaware
"This God character you speak of is kinda conceited to think that it knows best about everything." - student at Cornell
"I'm so happy I wasn't raised Christian..." - student from Texas A&M
"Do what you want, believe what you want, just don't drink the kool aid." - student from Appalachian State
"I'll face Hell and the Devil himself with my dignity and honor intact." - student from Rhode Island
Maybe now you understand why Jennifer and I are doing what we do with Campus Crusade. STUDENTS ARE LOST. They need the Gospel desperately. Most of these comments were just intellectual walls built up around the real heart issues students are facing. They need someone to dig into life with them and show them the Good News of the Gospel in a real way. They need someone who will break down those walls and deal with the real heart issues at hand. They need to be exposed to Christ's personal relationship rather than the religious practices.
"But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? This is what the Scriptures mean when they say, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news'!" - Romans 10:14-15
Our hearts break and are burdened for lost students. They are our future leaders in the nation. We need to reach them desperately so they can have a deep personal relationship with Christ. Pray for students...pray for them diligently.
