The Accent

Okay, so being in the South is an interesting experience for me. My "northern" ears can't comprehend this new foreign language known as the "southern drawl." I spent 20 minutes the other day with a lady on the phone just trying to set up electricity for our new apartment. I think 15 of those minutes were spent just trying to decipher just what she was saying!

Apparently, I guess I have an accent too though. Immediately upon sitting down in the barber's chair the other day, I was asked, "Where the heck are you from?" Telling them I was from Montana, I was then asked, "Is that one of those places where the cows out number the people?" Sadly, I had to say yes...

The y'alls, the fixin's, the used a coulds, the strange phrases I've heard that I just don't understand...I guess it'll just take some time for my ears to adjust. For now, I guess I will just stare back bewildered and dumbfounded whenever I'm asked a question. The South...an interesting adventure!
